Vita

The extremely colourful and over-detailed images of Jl Wenyu have made consumption a new system of belief. Revolution, market economy and art history were alienated and deprived of their actual functions, and deprived of its actual functions, Ji Wenyu contrasts the communist propaganda – image of the workers and peasants in heroic poses with the logos of Western brand edisi products. Political propaganda enters new alliances with the Western promises of happiness that the artist presents (not without a hint of irony) to the public in a radically changing China. ln, to whom he confronts the supposed Oriental to the supposedly Western, he questions the politics of cultural representation.

Ji Wenyu’s universe is full of surprises and references to both political events and cultural productions, focused on the exact distortions of today’s “spectacle society.” The works of Ji Wenyu strike a rare balance between surrealism, pop and precision. His pictures show a funny, baroque kitsch universe.
