Fang Yixiu

Vita

Fang was born in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province, in 1979 and graduated from the Guangzhou Art Institute in 2004. His works can be regarded and read like a picture book as slow sequences, in whose symbolism the questions that have occupied the artist from his childhood to the present day find their artistic expression. The completely new visual language conveys some of the positions and concepts of the younger generation in China.

Quote from the artist:

When I am alone, I always think that I have another self in another place that searches peacefully for me and quietly does its work. I think that my “reality i” is not my true self, which is why I often take my pen and make a drawing of the other self with the aim of finding it and having fun with it. So a series of stories were created, although I don’t know if my other self would have allowed me to do so. Thus things always take their form, between the conceivable and the unthinkable; Things are always strange and unimaginable.
